- Mount it at around 5 to 5.5 feet to the center. Too high and the sign floats above everyone's head in photos.
- Leave standing room. Six feet of clear floor in front of the wall, minimum.
- Keep the wording short. A person standing in front of a long phrase blocks half of it.
- Use your name. A generic phrase gets shared. Your studio name gets shared and credited.

Reception and your logo

Suite renters and small studios
If you rent a suite, you have two constraints: limited wall space and a landlord who may not want holes in the wall. Both are manageable.
Go smaller than you think and put the sign where the camera points, usually behind your chair or table. Use the included hanging kit rather than screwing into the wall if your lease is strict, and pick a size you can carry to a new suite later.
Lighting that actually flatters
This is the part most people get wrong. A bright neon sign directly beside a client's face throws colored light onto skin, which ruins the color accuracy of every before-and-after photo you take.

Warm white and soft pink are the most forgiving colors; strong green, blue and purple are the hardest to shoot against. - Your studio name in a script font, the most-used option for a reason.
- A short compliment aimed at the client rather than the business.
- A service word like "Lashes," "Nails" or "Brows" for a window or a specific station.

Windows and walk-in traffic
If you are in a strip mall or on a street with foot traffic, a window sign does a different job from your interior signs. It tells people you exist and that you are open. Keep it to one or two words and check your landlord's and city's rules on window signage before ordering.

Sizing
Salons are close-range spaces. A sign 3 to 4 feet wide is usually plenty for a selfie wall, and a reception logo often works at a similar size. The wall and the ceiling height matter more than the room's depth here. Mark the outline with painter's tape first and take a test photo with your phone from where clients actually stand.
